ICFW Canada Launches New Community Garden to Improve Food Security in Brampton

Fresh, locally grown vegetables are coming to families in need this summer.

The International Centre for Family Welfare (ICFW) Canada is proud to announce the launch of its new Community Garden, located at the corner of Mississauga Road and Wanless Drive in Brampton, Ontario. This exciting initiative marks another important milestone in our commitment to strengthening food security, promoting healthy living, and supporting vulnerable individuals and families throughout the Brampton community.

Made possible through the generous support of the Local Food Infrastructure Fund (LFIF) under Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the garden is already thriving with a wide variety of nutritious vegetables that will soon be harvested and shared with members of our community.

A Community Garden with a Purpose

Food insecurity continues to affect many households across Canada. Rising food costs have made it increasingly difficult for families to purchase fresh, nutritious produce.

The ICFW Community Garden was created to help address this growing challenge by cultivating healthy vegetables that can be distributed free of charge to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.

This initiative is about much more than growing food—it is about growing hope, dignity, health, and resilience. It demonstrates what can be achieved when community organizations, volunteers, government partners, and local residents work together toward a common goal.

Growing Fresh, Nutritious Vegetables in Brampton

Our volunteers have been working diligently throughout the growing season to cultivate a diverse selection of vegetables that reflect both the nutritional needs and cultural preferences of our community.

The garden currently includes:

  • Callaloo
  • Bitter Leaf
  • Kale
  • Cabbage
  • Onions
  • Tomatoes
  • Eggplant
  • Sweet Peppers
  • Hot Peppers
  • Chili Peppers
  • Corn
  • Huckleberry
  • Other tropical vegetables

By growing food locally, we are able to provide families with fresh, nutritious produce while encouraging sustainable agriculture and community engagement.

First Harvest Scheduled for Mid-July 2026

We are pleased to announce that the first harvest is expected in mid-July 2026.

Fresh vegetables harvested from the ICFW Community Garden will be distributed free of charge to individuals and families in need throughout the Brampton community.

This harvest represents more than fresh produce—it represents compassion, partnership, and our shared commitment to ensuring that everyone has access to healthy food.

Building Food Security One Harvest at a Time

The Community Garden is an important extension of ICFW Canada’s broader food security initiatives.

Together with our food distribution programs, community partnerships, volunteer network, and outreach services, this project helps build a stronger, healthier, and more resilient Brampton.

Through this initiative, we aim to:

  • Improve access to fresh, healthy vegetables
  • Reduce food insecurity among vulnerable families
  • Promote healthy eating and nutrition
  • Encourage sustainable local food production
  • Foster volunteerism and community participation
  • Strengthen community resilience through local agriculture

Every seed planted today represents hope for tomorrow.

Proudly Supported by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

ICFW Canada gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the Local Food Infrastructure Fund (LFIF) through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

Their investment is helping organizations like ours create long-term, sustainable solutions that improve access to nutritious food while building stronger, healthier communities.

Together, we are cultivating a future where fresh food is accessible to everyone.

Community gardens flourish because communities come together.

Whether you would like to volunteer, donate, partner with us, or simply learn more about our food security programs, we invite you to become part of this growing movement.

Together, we can cultivate more than vegetables—we can cultivate healthier families, stronger neighbourhoods, and brighter futures.
